ALL-LASER LASEK

What is LASEK Eye Surgery?

LASEK is a refractive eye surgery that permanently reshapes the cornea and produces similar results to LASIK. LASEK is performed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It is an alternative procedure in which the surgeon creates a thinner flap, moves the flap aside, performs necessary corrections, and repositions the cornea. This makes it a more suitable option than LASIK for patients with thin corneas or certain medical conditions. At Gangnam Smile Eye Clinic, you can have a quick and safe surgery in just two days for both eyes.

Eye-drop anesthetic is administered to ensure the procedure is painless. Then, the excimer laser is used to reshape the corneal tissue. The whole process should take around 10 minutes for both eyes.

Once the surgeon has completed the laser treatment, a special contact lens will be applied to help protect the eye. The lens will be removed after three to five days of the surgery depending on the conditions of your eye.

Who is good for LASEK?

If you need corrective eye surgery and your corneas are thin, LASEK can be a good alternative. The LASEK technique does not require as much tissue as LASIK. This procedure may also be optimal for significant nearsightedness (myopia), which requires more of the central cornea to be removed and reshaped.

FAQ

1. WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT WITH LASEK?

Both LASEK and LASIK surgeries produce similar outcomes. Most patients achieve 20/20 vision. Nearly all achieve 20/40 or better.

2. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THE LASEK FLAP TO HEAL?

The outer layer of the cornea where the flap is created in LASEK surgery will typically regenerate within three to five days. A unique medicated contact lens remains in place as a bandage to protect the eye during the healing process.

3. WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF LASEK?
